Project 0215

Embellished Vessel

Price - $30.00

This vessel is made from tulip poplar and is embellished with waxed lacing string.  The vase began to crack at a knot and I sort of “helped” the crack along and widened and lengthened it.  The lacing changes what would otherwise be a very plain vessel into something quite unique and a work of art.  This vessel can be used to hold dried flowers or anything else you can think of.  The diameter of the vase is 2 Ύ” and the height is 5” and the finish is lacquer.

Currently listed on eBay at

Lathe Turned Wood Lidded Box or Vessel

This is a strikingly beautiful box is made from a pine knot or burl and a cherry pedestal and lid.  Because of the pine knot’s twisted construction there are some holes in the box from the inside to the outside.  This box can be used for jewelry and other small items.  The diameter of the box is 3 1/8” and the height is 4 1/8” and the finish is shellac.  Click on the photos for a larger view.

Project 0209

Pewter Embellished Vessel

Price - $65.00

This elegant vessel is made from Honduran Rosewood with a pewter top rim.  The contrast of the dark Honduran Rosewood and the silvery pewter makes this a truly beautiful piece.  The vessel is 5 7/16” high and 4” in diameter with a buffed wax finish.  Click on the photos for a larger view.

I must disclose to all potential buyers that this vessel has some cracks in the wood.  The Honduran Rosewood that I bought came with some cracks and as I turned the wood more cracks were evident.  This is not necessarily distracting.  I stabilized the cracks in this piece so that they would not grow larger and my experience has been that they remain as they are.  I tried to show these cracks in the photos so that you would be aware of them and what they looked like.  Also there are some tiny inclusions or air bubbles in the pewter inside the hole on the top rim.  These faults may be unnoticeable to the casual observer but I see them.  They do not distract from the beauty of the pewter.

Project 0199

White and Black Ebony Pedestal Box

Price - $25.00

This is an absolutely beautiful pedestal box made from white and black ebony.  The box is 5 1/8” high and 1 ½” in diameter with a buffing wax finish and will hold about Ό ounce.  I do not put a finish on the inside of these types of boxes that might add an odor to the contents so that they can be used for spices or incense.  I must point out to the potential buyer that I personally have an issue with the design of the lid to this box.  As you can see, the lid does not have a lip and does not evenly flow into the body.  Furthermore, there are some small cracks that can be common in the sapwood / heartwood of ebony.  If the design issue or the cracks does not please you, then please do not buy this item.  Click on the photos for a larger view.
